Feature Friday: Elizabeth Carman

Happy Friday! With the new year comes new goals. One of my goals this year has been to treat my blog as a legitimate business- that includes my blog. With that in mind, I took my winter break to really brainstorm and set my goals and main topics for my blog. I came up with content creating!

Being a new Youtuber and blogger can be a bit difficult. Between learning how to edit and make editorial calendars it can be overwhelming. Knowing that, I thought that making a little corner on this blog where I share the new tips I learn as well as just getting to know other content creators would be a great idea.

I was beyond grateful to get a response from one of my favorite Youtubers, Elizabeth Carman  ,known as Elizabeth Grace on Youtube!

I’m so excited for you all to get to know here so let’s dive right in!!

Tell us about yourself?

To start, my name is Elizabeth Carman. My channel has gone by many names but at the moment I go by Elizabeth Grace which is just my first and middle name. I’m 22 years old and I’m currently attending a community college to get an associates in nutrition. From there I’m not sure what the future holds for me. I have so many ideas of business opportunities that I would like to explore and of course I’d love to see my youtube channel grow as well. I used to worry about the future but now I take it one day at a time and I’m excited to see where it takes me.

This is exactly where I am right now. Learning how to just take it day by day is something that has really helped me! Of course me wanting to really take care of myself now and pay more attention to my body I have looked into different things to try and habits to form. One of them that I really have strong on my heart is going vegan or plant-based.

What made you go plant-based/vegan?
I had always known about veganism but I never imagined I would be one! I first got into veganism when I started learning about nutrition (which I’m getting an associates degree in). I tried out vegetarianism first and it was surprisingly easy because I was never a huge fan of meat anyways. Then I started coming across vegan youtubers and watched a few classic vegan documentaries on Netflix (Forks Over Knives, Cowspiracy and Earthlings) and I made the switch overnight. Everything clicked for me and I don’t think I could pinpoint one cause that sparked the change for me because they all weighed heavily on my decision.

That’s awesome. I’m definitely going to watching those docs tonight!

Why did you start a youtube channel?
Many people don’t know this but I’ve been on youtube since May of 2010. I originally started out making random videos because I was a huge fan of other youtubers and wanted to do what they did. Throughout the years my channel has grown and evolved with me, but it wasn’t until about a year ago I really became serious about it.
What made you go towards minimalism? Any goals regarding minimalism?

I started to go more towards a minimalist lifestyle because I woke up one day and realized I had no money saved and had so much stuff! I began to slowly get rid of things, not even really knowing what minimalism was. I love minimalism because it can be made to work for every individual. I always try to stress to my viewers that their version of minimalism isn’t necessarily the same as mine. I still have a long way to go but I enjoy sharing my journey on my channel with others. As for future goals I’d like to inspire others to also downsize and become more aware of the materialism and consumerism of our society today.

Going back to health, let’s talk food.

What’s your favorite recipe?
Hmm, I love to cook and I’m always experimenting in the kitchen but if I had to pick a favorite it would be scrambled tofu. It’s so incredibly easy and I love breakfast food πŸ™‚ ( I recently made a video on how I make my tofu scramble)
Okay fun question! Soon I’ll be moving out and maybe getting an apartment or building a tiny house. (mom doesn’t allow pets – I know, weird) I’m really interested in getting a ferret as my first pet. What’s it like?
Owning ferrets is a blast! They are truly such unique little animals with their own personalities. I always describe them as a mix between a cat and dog because they’re playful and goofy like dogs but independent and sneaky like cats. They’re also a handful as well, they need lots of attention and constant supervision when outside the cage because they’re little thieves. They love making little cameos in my videos though and have their few fans who love them.
Awesome! This has definitely made it into a harder decision. They’re so cute! I’ll make sure to update you if I get one or two! Last two questions!
Any goals for the new year?! Any goals as to what you want your platform to represent?
My goals for 2017 are simple, I want to put in work everyday to achieve my goals. I want to continue to question the norm and live a more conscious life while sharing the journey on my youtube channel. There may even be a little recipe ebook planning in 2017 πŸ˜‰
I would say my channel and platform represents a place for me to share my journey in trying to live a more environmentally and conscious life. Along the way I hope to inspire others to join me and question why we do the things we do and if they’re beneficial to ourselves and the world we live in. Not to get too deep haha I also like to be creative and film/edit my videos and interact with my viewers. I love the little community that I’m creating and for me youtube is a great way to connect with like minded people.
Well there you have it! First feature of the year. I would like to give a HUGE thank you to Elizabeth Grace for letting me have the opportunity! I’d also like to thank her for her amazing videos that give me tons of inspiration! Make sure to go to her channel and subscribe, I promise you won’t regret it!
Happy Content Creating!
All the love and blessings,
Andrea Othela
