Devotion No.4: New Year, Same Old You?

The year old 2016 has come and gone. The new year is here! Filled with optimism, hope, resolutions, and new beginnings. As I listened to the sermon this morning one thing that my pastor talked about most is having a new year but not being a new you.

I really thought about that. It has been eight days in, and being honest with myself, I haven’t fulfilled what I said I was going to do. I haven’t been productive. I also haven’t been keeping to my word. But that doesn’t mean all hope is lost. You always have another chance to get back up and start all over again in this moment. I am learning that there are dreams that I have that I want to achieve. But how can I achieve them if I rarely do anything about them? I can’t be upset when things don’t go my way if I don’t put the work in!

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for their wrongs, and there is no favoritism.

-Colossians 3:22-25

In order to see results in our lives, we can’t just pray and think that’s it. We have to work for them. So in this moment, I am vowing to myself to work towards the reality I wish to have. I can’t just sit around and be lazy or be bitter. I have to do something about it in order to see good results. What is one thing you are going to do to make you one step closer to your dreams and God’s purpose for you?

All the Love and Blessings,

Andrea Othela
