Adjusting to the Present

Being that spring semester and summer session give you no break in between, I have been slacking big time on other things that I have to get done. Now that I have things figured out, I can finally begin to organize my life. I noticed that throughout this whole college career journey I am my worst enemy. That is the biggest pro that I have right now. Some may think that can be a bad thing. But with the right motivation and the ambition, it can go by quickly and with much success.

Walking through my campus earlier this week, I had the much needed time to decompress. As my biggest enemy, one thing that I tend to obsess on a lot is the future. Not like what am I going to be doing next week type of deal. But where am I going to be and what I am going to be doing in over a year. It can get to the point that my obsession keeps me up at night with anxiety.

That’s not healthy. I know I am not the only one who does this, so for those who are like me, I am going to tell you what I told myself. It’s amazing that you are thinking about how to invest in yourself and in your future. But chill out from time to time!!! Life is not all about college. Life is about living, and by living going through and enjoying and sometimes not liking certain situations you’re in. Making sure to enjoy the small things can really help you maintain your foundation and keep you from going insane.

Going on this walk really helps my mind settle from trying to race to the future. It helped me stay in the present. That’s one thing I have been trying to do as much as possible. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll never stop being a planner with multiple back up plans. BUT, I will be starting to take one thing at a time a lot more- one day at a time can relieve a lot of unwanted stress.

“Adjusting to the present” and not focusing on the past and future of my decisions or the decisions I have yet to make is a bit difficult. But enjoying the life I have now and the blessings I have now is way worth it!
